Ma's Dairy Farm

Ma’s Dairy Farm has been a bar and grill located in Albany since 1975. Located on Highway 99E, just south of the soccer fields at the YMCA, you have to pay attention or you will miss the parking lot. Not much space, but it works.

Ma's Dairy Farm Tavern, a beloved local establishment in Albany since 1975, offers a vibrant western-themed atmosphere with pool tables, video poker, and two big TVs for sports enthusiasts.

Under the ownership of Kelly Yie, the tavern continues to serve a diverse menu featuring award-winning Chinese cuisine, classic comfort foods like chicken fried steak and burgers, and a wide selection of drinks. Operating from 9 a.m. to midnight daily, Ma's Dairy Farm Tavern provides a casual dining experience suitable for all ages, accepting credit cards and offering convenient parking. Whether you're seeking a place to enjoy good food, play pool, or unwind with a drink, Ma's Dairy Farm Tavern is a go-to spot in Albany.

Walking up to the door of the bar, you may think it seems as if it is going to be quiet. As you open the door, however, it is lively, with two TV’s with sports and people cheering for their team and the sound of pool balls clacking and a few jokes by the players.

The video poker machines make all kinds of noises amid people at the tables dining in. At the bar, patrons sitting next to each other sound off while having fun. Meanwhile, employees race back and forth getting drinks and hustling back to the kitchen checking if it is time to deliver someone's food.

The way Ma’s came to be at this location makes a fine local tale. In 1975 there was a minimart at this spot and it unfortunately burned down. That is where two builders decided to rebuild on that spot and make it a bar.

The two builders had the last names of McDaniel and Anderson. They used the first letter of their last names and came up with Ma. The dairy farm part came from the milk stools and the names of bars in the ’70s – they all seemed to have catchy names such as Humpty's Dump and so on.

Jeff Rohrbough has worked at Ma's for four years. He knows the owners and loves working here and serving customers. Before working at Ma’s, he was a customer every Saturday and Sunday morning, catching football and basketball games on TV.

The walls are filled with horseshoes and saddles that give the place a western tone. Around the floor area are milk stools, a few tables to dine in, and four pool tables. They used to have five pool tables, and pool tournaments quite often. Like anything, things change through time. Maybe they will someday bring the tournaments back.

Not making any apologies, Rohrbough said, “It is a dive bar,” along with a small whispered laugh.

On the back wall you have six video poker machines lined up next to each other for some added entertainment.

The place has been sold three times since opening in 1975. Kelly Yie is the current owner and continues the tradition of food and a big variety of drinks, including the hard stuff.

Through the years, Ma’s has been known for their food. In 2021, Ma’s won the best Chinese food in Albany and displayed the award proudly up on the wall. The amount of food in each order is plentiful, to say the least.

They also have a variety of other foods to choose from such as chicken fried steak, french toast, biscuits, and omelets for breakfast to burgers, BLT's, and grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch or dinner.

So if you are looking for a wide variety of food to choose from, relax with a beer, play pool, and have a western like feel, with milk carton stools and a jukebox right as you walk in, Ma’s Dairy Farm Tavern at 3411 Pacific Blvd. SW in Albany would be a good fit for you.
